The South Korean company, Samsung, was one of the first companies in the world to launch a foldable smartphone. It already has a huge presence in this niche market and the company plans to bring more foldable devices into the market. Due to this reason, Samsung is working more on this department.
According to a new report, Samsung is trying to develop a Galaxy Z Flip-type smartphone and this smartphone can be folded in two directions, that is, inwards and outwards. Thus, the smartphone won’t require a larger cover display. The patent mentioned in the report was applied in October 2020.
A clamshell phone with an elongated display, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, is mentioned in the article. The hinge displayed is also specially designed so that the device can be folded in both directions as mentioned above.

Another benefit of folding is to prevent the screen from getting broken. The device can be folded the other way to reveal a big screen on both the front and back. In addition, the phone can be used in a completely open position, allowing users to use the entire flexible screen. A dual punch-hole camera can be spotted on the front side of the device. As there is no flash present on the smartphone, Samsung has illuminated the display so that flash is not missed.
We haven’t seen a foldable smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor but this device can be for the first time we see a foldable smartphone with this interesting feature. This is just a patent and is not a real product. So readers are advised not to treat this as a real device just yet. Samsung is developing a number of foldable smartphones like Z Flip (5G), Z Flip 3, and Z Fold 3. These are expected to be released later this year.
