When a film becomes the highest-grossing Korean movie of all time and keeps pulling audiences in two months after release, you stop calling it a hit and start calling it a phenomenon. The King’s Warden has officially crossed 16 million moviegoers, and now it’s chasing down all-time records that seemed untouchable just weeks ago.

A Historic Achievement — Only the Third Korean Film Ever

On April 5, distributor Showbox announced that The King’s Warden had surpassed 16 million moviegoers — making it only the third Korean film in history to reach this milestone. Given that it was released just on February 4, the film accomplished this in fewer than 61 days, a pace that speaks to a cultural moment rather than just a blockbuster opening weekend.

This is the kind of staying power that defines Korean cinema’s modern golden era — word-of-mouth, repeat viewers, and an emotional core that resonates long after the credits roll.

What Records Are Still Within Reach?

Extreme Job — the beloved 2019 comedy heist film — currently sits second on Korea’s all-time admissions chart with 16.26 million moviegoers. With The King’s Warden already at 16 million and still drawing steady audiences, it’s projected to overtake Extreme Job as early as next week.

The ultimate prize? The Admiral: Roaring Currents, which holds the all-time Korean box office record with a staggering 17.61 million admissions. That target is still a stretch, but the film’s momentum has made it a genuine conversation.

Celebrating with a Special Music Video

To mark the 16 million milestone, Showbox released a special music video for “Companion” — a deeply moving track from the film’s official soundtrack performed by Jeon Mi Do, the actress and singer beloved by Korean audiences since Hospital Playlist.

The MV adds a beautiful emotional layer to the celebration, reminding fans of the heart at the centre of this enormous commercial success. For more Korean film and entertainment updates, visit TechnoSports for the latest coverage.
