Apple MacBook Ultra Rumoured with OLED Touchscreen, Sitting Above MacBook Pro

Apple just launched the MacBook Neo at $599 and the M5 MacBook Pro — and it’s already planning to go further above. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is developing a brand-new top-tier laptop that could be called the MacBook Ultra, featuring the first-ever OLED touchscreen on a Mac and a price to match.

Apple MacBook Ultra: Everything Rumoured So Far

Why This Is a Big Deal for Mac Users

While Apple has been widely expected to launch new M6-series MacBook Pro models with OLED displays and touchscreen functionality, Gurman turned that rumour on its head — suggesting this is an all-new kind of MacBook rather than a MacBook Pro successor. The existing M5 MacBook Pro models would remain on sale, giving Apple a broader lineup than ever.

Switching to OLED could raise the price by as much as 20% — similar to what happened when the iPad Pro moved to OLED — making the MacBook Ultra the new top-tier model in Apple’s notebook lineup, sitting above the MacBook Pro rather than replacing it.

The touchscreen implementation sounds characteristically Apple — users will be able to tap or click on-screen elements with controls changing based on input method, while touch-based options will be integrated throughout macOS with iPad-like pinch and scroll gestures. Apple is not repositioning this as a touch-first device; the keyboard and trackpad remain primary.

A Dynamic Island-style cutout will replace the notch found on current MacBook displays — a detail that signals just how much of Apple’s iPhone design language is migrating to the Mac. For anyone tracking Apple’s laptop evolution, this is the most significant shift in the MacBook Pro lineup in over a decade — and Q4 2026 can’t come soon enough.
