Why Diplo? Bang Si Hyuk Had a Very Specific Vision
This wasn’t a random studio collab thrown together last minute. HYBE founder Bang Si Hyuk personally reached out to Diplo in November 2024 — while BTS was still on military hiatus — with a crystal-clear brief: don’t make a typical pop record. As Diplo told Complex, the message from Bang Si Hyuk was simple and bold — he wanted something “revolutionary,” something left of centre, something that would genuinely shock listeners who thought they already knew what BTS sounded like.
Diplo described the months-long process as deep and deliberate — digging through textures, moods, and sounds that felt unexpected yet still authentically BTS. The vision wasn’t just to make a banger for chart performance; it was to prove that BTS, as grown men returning from military service, had genuinely evolved as artists.

The Collaborators Who Make ARIRANG Different
Once Diplo was on board, the sessions expanded to include some seriously genre-defying names. Flume, JPEGMAFIA, and Diplo’s own Bison writing collective were brought in to shape the sound. This isn’t a lineup you’d typically associate with a mainstream K-Pop comeback — and that’s precisely the point.
Diplo summed up the entire project’s goal as letting BTS tell their stories as mature, multidimensional artists — not just global pop stars performing for stadiums, but creators with real depth and perspective to share. He called it his biggest work yet and believes it signals a major step forward for Korean music as a whole.
The album’s 14-track structure, led by single SWIM with RM topping the songwriting credits, already has ARMYs across the world counting down to March 20.
