BTS Sweeps the 2026 VMAs: Three Wins, Including a First for K-pop With Song of the Year

Three nominations, three trophies. On September 27 (local time), BTS walked away from the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater with a perfect record, and one of those wins made history.

BTS Wins : Overview

Why This Is a Big Deal?

A K-pop first. Song of the Year is one of the ceremony’s biggest honors, and BTS is the first K-pop group to take it home. That places “SWIM” in a category alongside mainstream global hits, not just genre-specific awards.

A return to familiar territory. The Best Group win is the fifth for BTS. They had won it four years in a row from 2019 to 2022, so this victory feels like a comeback to a spot they know well.

A perfect night. Winning in every category they were nominated for is rare, and it shows how strongly the song and the group resonated with voters and fans.

What BTS Said?

Through their agency BIGHIT MUSIC, the group thanked ARMY for their unwavering love and support. They described their album ARIRANG as a new beginning for them, which made these awards even more meaningful. They also credited everyone who loved their music for making a win like Song of the Year possible, and promised that all seven members will keep sharing good music and performances together.
