BTS’s Jimin Hits a New Milestone: “Who” Goes Platinum in Japan

Some milestones are years in the making. Others sneak up quietly and then land with full force. For BTS’s Jimin, this month brought exactly that kind of moment — his solo track “Who” has officially crossed 100 million streams in Japan, earning him his first-ever solo platinum certification for streaming from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

Who: Understanding the Certification

For context, RIAJ’s streaming certification system, introduced in 2020, works alongside its existing physical shipment and digital download certifications. It’s a separate benchmark specifically designed to measure a song’s real-time streaming performance.

Reaching platinum status isn’t a small feat — it requires consistent, sustained listening over time rather than just an initial spike from a comeback release. For “Who” to cross the 100-million mark solidifies just how deeply the track has resonated with Japanese listeners well beyond its initial release window.

A Milestone Years in the Making

While this marks Jimin’s first solo song to achieve platinum streaming certification in Japan, it isn’t his first brush with platinum status in the country. His solo debut album “FACE” had already earned a platinum certification previously, showing that his solo career has consistently performed strongly in the Japanese market since his debut as a soloist.

Why This Matters?

Streaming certifications like this one offer a clearer picture of long-term listener engagement compared to first-week sales numbers. For an artist like Jimin, who balances both group activities with BTS and an increasingly prominent solo career, milestones like this highlight his individual pull as an artist — proof that his solo work continues to build lasting traction internationally, not just within Korea.

With BTS’s ongoing activities and Jimin’s solo trajectory both remaining strong, this certification adds another meaningful marker to what’s already been a standout year for him individually.
