Ramayana Movie: Overview

The Complete Star Cast: Who’s Playing Who

Lead Characters

Ranbir Kapoor takes on the monumental role of Lord Ram, undergoing intense physical and spiritual preparation to embody the virtuous prince of Ayodhya. South sensation Sai Pallavi portrays Goddess Sita, bringing emotional depth to the beloved character.

KGF superstar Yash makes his Bollywood debut as Ravana, the ten-headed demon king, in what promises to be a career-defining performance. The actor is also co-producing the film through his Monster Mind Creations banner.

Sunny Deol steps into the role of Lord Hanuman, the mighty devotee whose strength and devotion form the heart of the epic. Television star Ravi Dubey plays Lakshman, Ram’s devoted younger brother.

Royal Court of Ayodhya

The film features veteran actors portraying the royal family. Arun Govil, who immortalized Lord Ram in the classic TV series, returns to the Ramayana universe as King Dashrath. Indira Krishnan plays Queen Kausalya, while Lara Dutta takes on the complex role of Queen Kaikeyi. Sheeba Chaddha portrays the cunning Manthara.

Extended Ensemble

The supporting cast reads like a who’s who of Indian cinema. Rakul Preet Singh plays Surpanakha, Kajal Aggarwal appears as Mandodari (Ravana’s wife), and Kunal Kapoor portrays Lord Indra. Vivek Oberoi joins as Vidyutjiva, while reports suggest Amitabh Bachchan may appear as Jatayu and Anil Kapoor as King Janak.

What Makes This Ramayana Different?

Unlike previous adaptations, this version promises to stay authentic to Valmiki’s original text while leveraging cutting-edge VFX technology from DNEG Studios. The collaboration between Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer and maestro A.R. Rahman marks a historic musical partnership that blends global orchestration with Indian soul.

Producer Namit Malhotra emphasized the film’s vision: creating something “authentic, sacred, and visually stunning” that brings Indian storytelling to global audiences. The teaser released in July 2025 has already garnered massive appreciation for its respectful treatment of the source material.

Box Office Expectations and Cultural Impact

With its unprecedented budget and pan-Indian star power, Ramayana aims to surpass the success of films like Baahubali and RRR. The two-part structure allows for comprehensive storytelling, with Part 1 reportedly concluding at Sita’s abduction, building anticipation for the epic battle in Part 2.

For fans eagerly awaiting more Bollywood blockbusters, this mythological saga represents a watershed moment in Indian cinema. The film’s release during Diwali 2026 positions it as the ultimate festive family entertainer.
