WhatsApp makes it ‘compulsory’ to share your data with other Facebook companies

For a few years, WhatsApp has been evolved in multiple aspects and becomes one of the finest user-friendly secure messaging and social media platforms. As an addition to its updates, recently WhatsApp has updated its privacy policy, by which it becomes compulsory to share your data with other Facebook companies.

If you regularly use this messaging app, you must have noticed a full-screen pop-up suddenly, which shows the information about WhatsApp’s updated Terms and Privacy Policy. In this pop-up, WhatsApp clearly shows that the upcoming update will arrive to make the data sharing compulsory. As per the notification screenshot, WhatsApp has confirmed the cut-off date of February 8, 2021. So, let’s check out the three points that the company briefly describes:

  • “WhatsApp’s service and how we process your data”.
  • “How businesses can use Facebook hosted services to store and manage their WhatsApp chats”.
  • “How we partner with Facebook to offer integrations across the Facebook Company Products”.

Now let’s quickly check out the category of information shared below:

  • Account Registration(example: Phone Number)
  • Transaction Data(Whatsapp Pay)
  • Service-Related Information
  • Information on how you interact with others(Businesses)
  • Your Mobile device information
  • Your IP Adress
  • Others (Specified as on Privacy Policy, then Information we collect)

From those above-mentioned points, if you check Others, on the Privacy Policy Page, if you are a Whatsapp Pay user, you’ll find Transactions and Payments Data. So, the company will collect the information of your Shipping Details, Payment Method, and Transaction Amount.

Next, WhatsApp will be well able to detect your general location using your IP address and Phone Number even if you don’t use their location services. As its reasons, WhatsApp has stated that the whole process is basically for diagnostic and troubleshooting purposes.

And last but not least, Whatsapp has strictly mentioned that the user has to follow the company’s newest agreement policy and continue using the service or he/she can just delete the account.
