7 Malayalam OTT Films That Will Make You Call Your Mom Right After the Credits Roll This Mother’s Day

There’s something about Malayalam cinema that hits differently when it comes to motherhood. No melodrama for the sake of it, no convenient sacrifice at the climax — just honest, breathing, complicated women who happen to be mothers. This Mother’s Day 2026, skip the generic content and settle in with one of these seven gems streaming right now on OTT. Your mom will appreciate you picking something actually worth watching.

1. C/O Saira Banu (JioHotstar)

Manju Warrier is electrifying as Saira Banu, a middle-class postwoman who takes on powerful opponents in court to prove her adopted son Joshua’s innocence in a hit-and-run case. It’s a mother’s love expressed through sheer grit and legal warfare — and it lands every punch.

2. Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum (Amazon Prime Video)

Fahadh Faasil plays Pachu, a pharmacy owner who agrees to escort his landlord’s elderly mother Laila from Kerala to Mumbai. When Laila insists on a detour to Goa for a personal mission, what unfolds is a quietly moving exploration of how maternal affection can transform strangers into family.

3. Minnaminungu (ZEE5)

Surabhi Lakshmi delivers a powerhouse performance as a single mother juggling multiple jobs — domestic helper, milk seller — to put her daughter Charu through college abroad. The gut-punch twist, when she discovers Charu’s real plans for the money, is the kind of thing that sits with you for days.

4. Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela (JioHotstar)

Based on writer Chandramathi’s real memoir, this film follows Kurien (Nivin Pauly), who flies back from London after his mother Sheela is diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer. Rather than wallow in grief, the family meets the crisis with humour and warmth — making it one of the most emotionally generous films on this list.

5. Kaanekkaane (SonyLIV)

Suraj Venjaramoodu plays a grieving father suspicious of his son-in-law Allen after his daughter’s mysterious death. But the film’s quiet masterstroke is Aishwarya Lekshmi’s Sneha — a stepmother who defies every cliché of the trope by being genuinely loving toward Allen’s biological son.

6. Ente Ummante Peru (Amazon Prime Video)

Tovino Thomas is Hameed, a young man from Malabar branded an orphan after his father’s death and struggling to find a bride. His search for his mother takes him on a heartfelt road journey through his father’s past — and the film quietly asks: what does it really mean to be someone’s mother?

7. Manassinakkare (Amazon Prime Video)

The classic of the list. Sheela plays Kochu Thresia, a wealthy widow ignored by her selfish children who finds genuine companionship in Reji (Jayaram), a young farmer who simply shows up for her. With Nayanthara in a supporting role, this one is timeless — and a perfect watch with the whole family.
