Cody Gakpo signs for Liverpool in shocking twist: £37m plus add-ons agreed

Liverpool have completed the signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, in a stunning turn of events. The attacker was keen on joining Manchester United, but has now been picked up by their rivals in a deal that materialised seemingly out of nowhere.

The Merseyside club will be paying £37 million for the Dutchman, and have agreed bonuses which could take the final amount to £50 million.

Cody Gakpo to join Liverpool: Done Deal

The 23-year-old will be signing a six-year contract with Liverpool, and personal terms for the deal have already been agreed. PSV have confirmed that they have an agreement to sell their star player to the Reds, but an official announcement from the Premier League side has not been made yet.

Cody Gakpo will be the second Dutch player at the club, after Virgil Van Dijk. The centre-back was highly appreciative of his compatriot, and hinted that Liverpool could make a number of important signings during the January transfer window.

The player will be travelling to England to complete his medicals for the transfer in the coming days. And he will be the first January signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side, before other players are recruited.

Klopp was essential to the arrival of the youngster, as he wanted a new winger for the second half of the season. The main reason for this was due to the injuries, with both Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz ruled out with problems. And it now remains to be seen whether the arrival of Gakpo can help Liverpool earn a place in the top four by the end of the season.
