A recent Geekbench 5 score posted by @BenchLeaks on Twitter indicates that the Ryzen 9 7900X outperforms the Ryzen 9 5900X by 30% on both multi-core and single-core testing. Once it comes in our testing, it may be enough to earn the brand-new 7900X a spot on our list of the top CPUs.

In the single-threaded test, the Ryzen 9 7900X received 2,167 points, while in the multi-threaded test, it received 18,446 points. The Ryzen 9 5900X achieved 13,946 points in the multi-core test and 1,669 points in the single-core test, according to the official Geekbench browser statistics page.

This effectively provides the Ryzen 9 7900X a 30% advantage over its predecessor in single-threaded performance and a 32% advantage over multi-threaded performance.

These statistics closely match those AMD predicted for Ryzen 7000 over Ryzen 5000, including a 29% generational increase in single-threaded speed and a 45% increase in multi-threaded activities.

Geekbench 5 alone is insufficient to assess CPU performance because CPU performance might vary significantly depending on the workflow. In the single-threaded test of Geekbench, we at least saw the same 30% increases.

The 13% increase in IPC provided by the Zen 4 architecture and the 800MHz increase in boost frequency from 4.8GHz to 5.6GHz are directly responsible for the majority of Geekbench 5’s results. But the addition of AVX-512, which Geekbench 5 will use in its AES-XTS cryptography benchmark, is another speed gain coming from Ryzen 7000. Since the Ryzen 9 7900X and 5900X both have 12 cores, the performance improvements of the 7900X can also be attributable to greater per-core performance.
