The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was released on Amazon prime video on 1st September 2022. It premiered along with 2 episodes and was released in 240 countries and territories worldwide. According to the Jeff Bezos-founded, streamer this show has drawn more than 25 million viewers on its premiere day itself.
The series has a global audience of more than 25 million is the best and biggest premiere of Amazon Prime Video and has created a record that the OTT platform has not been able to create in the history of the past 15 years.
The boss of Amazon Studios named Jennifer Salke said, “It’s sort of fitting that Tolkien’s stories – among the most popular of all time, and what many consider the true origin of the fantasy genre – have led us to this proud moment”.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is actually set thousands of years ago before Tolkien’s tales The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The fans are taken back to the new and old back to Middle Earth and the peaceful days of the Second Age. At a first glance, it looks very peaceful. The series contains eight episodes and the first season will run through 14th October 2022.
The OTT platform has taken the rights from the Tolkien estate in 2017 for $250 million. At that very moment, the platform made a commitment to running this series till the fifth season. The big-budget Season 1 was filmed in New Zealand, where Peter Jackson made his Oscar-winning trilogy, whereas for the second season we saw the series move to the UK, with production about to begin there.
