Gerard Pique makes 600 appearances for Barcelona: A look back at his career

In Barcelona’s dominant win over Osasuna, Gerard Pique made his 600th appearance for the team. And he capped off the occasion with a clean sheet for his team, proving his worth in the backline yet again.

The Barcelona veteran has been with the club for the last fourteen years, and has established himself as an icon over the years. At the age of 35 as well, the centre-back is making the starting line-up regularly and is a key figure in the locker room as well.

Gerard Pique’s illustrious career at Barcelona

Despite coming through the La Masia academy, things didn’t work out for Gerard Pique instantly. The centre-back achieved recognition at Manchester United, winning a Champions League title with them. And another rather unknown fact about him is that he has 22 appearances for Spanish side Zaragoza as well.

But since returning to Barcelona, he has been with them consistently and has won everything there is to win playing for club and country.

With Barcelona, Pique is an eight-time La Liga champion, and has won the Copa del Rey on seven occasions. Three of his four Champions League victories have come with his boyhood club.

With Spain, he won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euros, and earned more than 100 caps for the Spanish national team as well. No matter how criticised he might be for not being at his peak at the age of 35, Pique will remain one of the most decorated centre-backs of all-time. And his achievements throughout his career will be extremely hard to replicate for any youngsters of today.
