Microsoft Flight Simulator is getting a huge PC performance boost this month

Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the most demanding games, but this month a big patch is coming which promises remarkable performance improvements. Asobo, Microsoft Flight Simulator’s developer has been busy rewriting its engine for performing well on Xbox Series X/S. This change will also initiate some needed improvements to the PC side on July 27.

During a recent stream on Twitch, spotted by Twinfinite, Asobo shows how remarkable the performance boost will be on older systems with an RTX 2060 super and an Intel Core i7-9700K. Thanks to the patch, this game jumped from around 30fps to 60fps.  The utilization of the CPU also drops from 100 percent to 75 percent. The memory also drops from 16GB to 4.7 GB.

CEO of Asobo Sebastian Wolch explains “We have rewritten a lot of the parts of the engine … to get the maximum performance out of the sim”.The team mainly focusing on CPU optimization because this game has been CPU heavy since its last year launch.

The game Microsoft Flight Simulator will go to DirectX 12 for Xbox Series X / S. For now, the game will remain on DirectX 11 on PC.  Wloch verifies “All the performance improvements come from just improving the simulator”. “PC has not yet moved to DirectX 12, the team is still working on it. It may bring improvements further, or not.”

An executive producer called Martial Bossard on Microsoft flight Simulator at Asobo confirmed that the future move to Directx 12 will allow the team to use ray tracing in the game.

The developing team confirms that the simulator will run on both the Xbox Series S and Series X at 30fps. As both support VRR, there will be a choice to go higher than 30fps on Monitors which supports it.
