The Portuguese captain was awarded the Player of the Century award at the Globe Soccer Awards 2020. He has been phenomenal in this century (2001-2020). Starting under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and then conquering the world with Real Madrid, the current Juventus star has been arguably the best player!
After receiving the award, Ronaldo expressed his unhappiness with how the current season is unfolding. He cherishes when fans in the stadium boo him. But as the fans are not allowed inside the stadium currently, he misses those things.
“For me, I have to be honest, to play in an empty stadium is boring in my opinion,” he said at the awards (as quoted in the DailyMail).
“We, the players, respect all the protocol and health is the most important thing of all, of course, but I don’t like it to be honest.”
“I do it first of all because I love football. My passion is always football. I play for my family, my kids, my friends, the fans. But I don’t like it, to be honest, it’s so weird.”
“I like when people boo Cristiano. When I touch the ball they ‘boo’. I like it.”
“I hope in 2021 they can change the rules and we can see the stadiums full of people.”
A new strain of Coronavirus has recently been found which is much stronger and deadlier. So it is almost unlikely that fans will be allowed inside the stadium in full capacity in the near future.
