Raul Jimenez is ‘comfortable’ after undergoing surgery for skull fracture in London

Only five minutes into the match pitting Arsenal against Wolves, David Luiz and Raul Jimenez were involved in a sickening thud of heads following a corner taken by Willian.

The crack of the impact echoed throughout the stadium, and play was immediately stopped, with medics rushing onto the pitch as well.

David Luiz managed to fare off the better of the two players involved in the incident. However, he was bleeding from the head as well and required heavy bandaging on his head to carry on playing.

For Raul Jimenez, on the other hand, it was the end of the night as the striker had to be stretchered off the pitch after the horrifying incident. The injured player had to be supplied with oxygen in addition to being severely incapacitated.

The NHS paramedics were very quick in their decision making despite being faced with a code-red situation. Jimenez was immediately transported to a medical facility in London where he underwent surgery on Sunday night.

The Mexican suffered a skull fracture and is currently recovering from a successful surgery. Wolves provided an update on their star player’s condition, confirming that Jimenez was comfortable and was with his family and partner in the hospital.

The club further requested fans to respect the player’s privacy during the difficult time and wished him a speedy recovery.

While no timescale has been placed on the forward’s return, it is likely that Jimenez will be out for a considerable amount of time.

David Luiz managed to carry on for the remainder of the first half but was substituted at half-time.

The incident has sparked demands for a “concussion substitution” in the Premier League to protect the players from long-term complications.

Many players and managers agree that it is important that the Premier League encourages that players should be subbed off in case of a concussion for their well being and for additional safety for the athletes.
