AMD’s raytracing to be available for many gaming titles soon

AMD has been gearing big time to take on Nvidia in the 4K gaming market. Until now, Nvidia always had the edge over HD gaming due to its DLSS solution uplifting its raytracing technology. But with AMD’s raytracing finally moving forward and performing exceptionally well, it seems that the company is inching closers to overtaking Nvidia in a big way.

Recent reports going around the gaming community states that AMD plans to implement its new raytracing feature to gaming titles based on Microsoft’s XDR or Vulkan Raytracing APIs. The upcoming Radeon RX 6000 RDNA 2 graphics cards will feature raytracing support in most gaming titles.

Some of the market games are proprietary standards for Nvidia’s raytracing features for its RTX line-up. However, some major game engines such as Frostbite, Unreal, Seed & Unity are based on Microsoft’s XDR APIs. As such, they will be supported by AMD’s raytracing. But some titles that run on Vulkan Raytracing are only endorsed for RTX GPUs.

The developers who use industry-standard APIs for raytracing still prefers Nvidia’s raytracing technology. When this developer starts adapting AMD’s technology remains to be seen; it is expected to be done sooner than expected. There are many drastic differences between NVIDIA’s RTX & AMD’s raytracing implementation in the same titles too.

A list of all the games that are based on Microsoft’s XDR API:

  • Battlefield V
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
  • Control
  • Deliver Us the Moon
  • Dirt 5
  • Fortnite
  • Metro Exodus
  • Shadow of The Tomb Raider
  • Wolfenstein Youngblood

According to sources, AMD’s raytracing performance is on par with the RTX series on Nvidia’s. It is even though Nvidia is uplifting its technology using the DLSS solution. It means that the company has a more robust RT solution than what Nvidia has to offer. As to whether Radeon RX 6000 RDNA 2 GPU will be able to dominate the 4K gaming market remains to be seen.
