New Samsung Exynos 981 could come with Bluetooth 5.2

Samsung, the Korean smartphone giant, is known for manufacturing processor for their smartphones in different regions. Exynos is their processor, but Samsung also uses Qualcomm’s processors, who have US$24.7 billion revenue (2019).

Samsung uses Exynos chipsets even in its flagship smartphones. They launched the Samsung M series and A series of smartphones with the Exynos processor, which was a huge success for Samsung. Seeing the positive feedback, Samsung is working on Exynos chipsets.

Now the brand is reportedly going to launch a new processor – the Exynos 981. The Exynos 981 has been certified by the Bluetooth SIG certification, which hints at a potential launch. That means there is a possibility that we could see Exynos 981 in Samsung’s upcoming mid-range smartphones.

The processor’s certification description says, “The Exynos 981 is to be used together with a compatible RF chip to build a full BT + WiFi solution supporting Bluetooth 5.2”. If we take Bluetooth 5.2 support as a hint, then we can expect the processor is coming very soon.

In the second quarter, Samsung released the Exynos 880 octa-core processor, and now shortly, Exynos could launch 981 with Bluetooth 5.2. Exynos 980 was a mid-range SoC, and it was the company’s first 5G-modem. Seeing the previous price-range, we can assume that 981 SoC will be another mid-range processor after 980.

The Bluetooth SIG certification does not tell us about the existence of the Exynos 981 processor. Now we will have to when the Exynos 981 SoC comes into the market.
