Official: Tottenham Hotspur sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur finished outside the top four under Jose Mourinho last season. They finished at the sixth position just in for a Europa League place. This is a huge decline as under Mauricio Pochettino, they finished as the Champions League runners-up in 2019.

Sadly, club veteran Jan Vertonghen has also left the club this summer. The Belgium defender has spent 8 seasons with the club. He has played 232 games for Tottenham, winning 129 of those. He has also helped them to keep 72 clean sheets during his time leading the backline. The 33-year-old has also scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists.

Tottenham is on the rebuild to regain their lost status. They have now officially announced the signing of Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Denmark international has signed a five-year contract with the club. He will be at Tottenham until 2025.

Tottenham Hotspur released an official statement: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton. The midfielder has signed a contract with the Club until 2025 and will wear the number five shirt.”

Hojbjerg will wear the No 5 shirt left vacant by club legend Vertonghen.

Hojbjerg was delighted to sign for Tottenham. He said to the club’s official website: “I’m just so happy and it feels – I don’t want to say perfect because nothing is perfect – but it feels right, now that I am a part of this team and this club, because I feel I have something to give and I also feel that the club has so much for me to learn from to become better. I became a very good player at Southampton but I want to become an even better player and honestly, there is no better place with the coach, the people at the top, the players and now all that I have seen of the training ground and the system… there is no better place to try to become a world-class player.”

The 25-year-old made 128 appearances and scored five goals during his four-year spell at Southampton. He joined them from Bayern Munich in 2016. He was named as the club Captain in December 2018.
