Francisco Trincao has been the young Portuguese sensation that has put every major football clubs to their feet but it was Barcelona who grabbed the young 20-year old to the club in January. The young talent will move to the Camp Nou in July on a five-year deal worth €31 million and will have a hefty release clause of €500m.
Francisco Trincao’s agent, Bruno Carvalho Santos, has confirmed the fact that Barcelona has been following the young forward since 2018 but decided to sign him only in January after his form “exploded” for Braga.
Carvalho Santos even said that Barcelona had been closely watching Trincao for quite some time and also revealed the fact that they weren’t the only club interested in the youngster.
“After the U19 Euro Cup in 2018, where Trincão was the best forward and Portugal won against Italy, I had a meeting with Barça’s technical structure. Since then, Barça began to follow him more closely. They watched him in every game,” he said via Sport.
“Then, between December and January of this season, he literally exploded and Barça decided to sign him immediately. They beat all the other clubs who were interested in him.”
Trincao netted his first goal of the season in December in the Europa League win over Slovan Bratislava and went on scoring six in his next 13 games for the club.
The young forward did have an amazing season for Braga before the 2019-20 season came to a halt due to the current coronavirus pandemic. Now it will be interesting to see how the youngster fits into the club profile and Barcelona have to be patient about him as he’s only 20-years old, a great future lies ahead of Trincao.
