Mexico, Japan, Spain and Brazil have reached the semi-finals of the Olympic Games, and three of them will be earning medals to mark the occasion.

Spain were the first to progress into the next round, with a 5-2 victory over Ivory Coast. Eric Bailly put Ivory Coast in front quickly, before Dani Olmo equalised for La Roja. The drama ensued late in the game again, with Max Gradel scoring in the 91st minute to make it 2-1. Spain substitute Rafa Mir then scored in the 93rd minute to send the game into extra time.

Mir would go on to score a hat trick, as Spain dispatched their opponents in stunning fashion. They will face hosts Japan on Tuesday in the semi-finals.

Japan did enough to book their place in the last four, after a goalless draw with New Zealand. The hosts of the tournament won 4-2 on penalties. Liberato Cacace and Clayton Lewis were unable to convert for New Zealand while Maya Yoshida scored the winning goal to help his team into the penultimate round.

Mexico thrashed Korea 6-3 in a 9-goal affair to set up an exciting semi-final against Brazil.

Henry Martin and Cordova scored a brace, while Luis Romo and Aguirre chipped in to double their scoreline against their opponents on the day.

Brazil defeated Egypt by 1-0 thanks to a goal from Matheus Cunha to win the game.
