YouTube Music 2024 Recap Unveils Your Personal Musical Character

YouTube Music is stepping things up early with its 2024 Recap, even ahead of Spotify Wrapped. Like Spotify, with its annual tradition, YouTube Music Recap gives users an overview of their listening time, favorite artists or albums, and more. YouTube Music has taken a creative direction this year, though, with a music character component that gives users an idea of how they would fit into the fictional role based on their listening habits.

YouTube Music 2024 Recap: New Music Character Feature and Colorful Insights

If you haven’t checked out that feature yet, getting to the 2024 Recap is as simple as one tap. Open the YouTube Music app on iPhone or Android. Just below the Speed dial panel (which takes the place of Listen Again), listeners will see a dedicated Recap 2024 banner. Pressing on it will prompt the option to “Get your Recap,” where users can swipe through a TikTok-style recap of their musical year.

Or, by clicking the profile icon in the top-right of the app then “Your Recap” from the dropdown menu. From there, the user can view different categories including Top Tracks, Top Artists, Listening Timeline, and more. In each section, there are buttons to save the recap as an image on your phone. Also on the Recap page is a share button for posting your Recap to Instagram, WhatsApp, and other platforms so you can let your friends know what you have been listening to.

The 2024 Recap design is more colorful than ever, with vibrant visuals that immediately catch the eye. One standout feature is the ability to quickly see the overall vibe of your listening habits. For example, users may see descriptors like “Perky, Swoon, Sunny, and Pop” to characterize their musical preferences.

However, the most intriguing addition this year is the “music character” page. Based on your listening habits, YouTube Music assigns you a fictional persona, much like Spotify Wrapped’s personality quiz. For me, the result was “The Undercover Agent,” as if my year of music listening had a cinematic narrative. This creative feature adds a fun and personalized element to the yearly recap.
