Xiaomi EV today announced SkyNomad, its second product series, signaling a strategic expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The new SkyNomad series is characterized as an “intelligent, reconfigurable, large-space SUV,” distinctly different from the company’s existing SU7 and YU7 series, which are positioned as “the driver’s car.”
The launch of SkyNomad results from over five years of Xiaomi’s automotive development. While the SU7 and YU7 series prioritize driving dynamics, SkyNomad focuses on the occupant experience, designing the cabin as an adaptive living space that can transform throughout the day.
Xiaomi Expanding the EV Portfolio
The automotive industry in China has witnessed significant advancements, with large six- and seven-seat layouts and feature-rich interiors becoming commonplace. However, evolving consumer preferences increasingly prioritize interior comfort and adaptability over sheer size or luxurious seating materials. This shift reflects how individuals utilize their vehicles beyond mere transportation, often for daily commutes, resting, working, family trips, or even as a secondary dwelling during activities like camping. For these users, a car serves as an extension of personal living space, even while in transit.
This user-centric philosophy guided the development of SkyNomad, which commenced in early 2023, aiming to deliver a vehicle built around the occupants’ sense of ease and functionality.

Kunlun Architecture and Intelligent Integration
The SkyNomad is built on Xiaomi’s all-new Kunlun Architecture, developed from early 2023 with the specific goal of enabling reconfigurable interior space. Within its SUV body, a flat floor and a long-track seating system allow the cabin to transition between various modes. These include a standard driving mode accommodating passengers, luggage, and pets, and parked modes that can transform the interior into a workspace, a lounge, or a family activity area.
Achieving this adaptability required the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), Xiaomi’s established smart-device ecosystem, and advanced manufacturing capabilities. Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Corporation (https://www.mi.com/global/), commented on the development, stating in a Weibo post, “Our answer was to let intelligence define the space, to build a living interior that moves with you.”
Market Focus
The SkyNomad series targets consumers seeking a versatile vehicle for daily commutes, family excursions, and occasional remote work. It is positioned as a functional, adaptable tool that can fulfill multiple roles for professionals and parents across different hours of the day, rather than solely a lifestyle statement.
The Xiaomi SkyNomad Series, developed over three and a half years, is slated for an imminent launch in the Chinese mainland market. For more insights into automotive tech developments (https://technosports.co.in/) and smart mobility solutions, visit TechnoSports.
