This year we are going to witness the revolution in the gaming console market as both Microsoft and Sony will announce their new consoles powered by the revolutionary AMD hardware on basis of AMD’s Zen 2 architecture for CPU and RDNA 2 architecture for GPU.

Even though a lot of info has been leaked about the Xbox Series X but also we have some pretty solid info about the upcoming Xbox Series S console, also known as Lockhart, that has been published by a Chinese website.

The Chinese tech site MyDrivers has published an article about the numerous rumours about the Xbox Series S console or Lockhart is expected to be revealed sooner than expected. The reported $300 price of this console suggests that it will be targeted at those who want to enjoy next-gen console technology under a more restrictive budget.

Xbox Series S will feature just 4 TeraFlops of GPU power but will cost $300

The Xbox Series S console will not have an optical drive – similar to the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition to save the bucks. Talking about the hardware, what we can expect is 16 GB of total RAM (12 GB for the GPU and 4 GB for the OS) along with a 4 GHz AMD Ryzen custom APU along with GPU compute performance of 4 TFLOPS.

Its might be surprising for you that the Xbox Series X will feature 12 TFLOPS of GPU horsepower but the Xbox Series S console will feature only 4 TFLOPS of graphical performance.

But MyDrivers has said that due to AMD’s advanced RDNA technology, the Lockhart console will actually produce a better gaming performance than its predecessor, based out of GCN 4 architecture.

So, the lower teraflop figure shouldn’t bother you that much if you tend to purchase the upcoming Xbox Series S, which Microsoft actually needs confirming its existence.
