What Makes Starlink Competitive in India
The hardware package includes the satellite dish, Wi-Fi router, mounting equipment, cables, and power supply, designed for plug-and-play setup requiring only a clear view of the sky. This makes it ideal for India’s vast underserved territories lacking fiber or cable infrastructure.
At launch, customers may receive a complimentary one-month trial, allowing users to test capabilities before committing to ongoing subscriptions. The pricing positions India as one of Starlink’s most affordable markets globally, significantly lower than Bangladesh (₹4,200/month) and Nigeria ($35/month).
Regulatory Progress and Partnerships
Starlink secured its GMPCS license from the Department of Telecommunications in June 2025, followed by operational approval from IN-SPACe. The company is exploring distribution partnerships with Airtel and Reliance Jio, leveraging their extensive rural networks for faster rollout and easier customer access.
The government has limited Starlink to 20 lakh (2 million) connections initially, ensuring a controlled rollout to avoid disrupting existing telecom infrastructure. Final spectrum allocation remains the last regulatory hurdle before commercial launch.
