Quick take: Xbox has reportedly opened early access to Cloud Playtime, a way to stream games by buying hours instead of paying a monthly subscription. Packs start at $3.99 for 10 hours. It is limited to Xbox Insiders for now, with a wider rollout expected in November.
Xbox Cloud Playtime: Streaming by the Hour
Instead of a monthly fee, you can buy a block of cloud streaming time. A post by Sillycorns lists the early access prices and how to join. I could not find Microsoft’s own price list, so treat the figures as reported.
Cloud Playtime Pricing (Early Access)
| Pack | Price | Approx. in India | Cost per Hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 hours | $3.99 | About ₹330 | About $0.40 |
| 25 hours | $7.99 | About ₹660 | About $0.32 |
| 50 hours | $11.99 | About ₹990 | About $0.24 |
Rupee figures are from the post, and the per-hour cost is our calculation. Prices and market availability may differ at launch.
How to Get In
- Early access is for Xbox Insiders.
- Sign up by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub app.
- A wider rollout is expected in November.
Why Xbox Is Doing This
Microsoft announced in September that Game Pass streaming will no longer be unlimited from November 2026. The new monthly caps are:
| Game Pass Tier | Monthly Price | Cloud Hours Included |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | $9.99 | 5 hours |
| Premium | $14.99 | 10 hours |
| Ultimate | $22.99 | 15 hours |
Microsoft says extra hours will be sold through the Xbox Store, and that non-subscribers can buy hours to stream eligible games they already own. It said the change affects about 4% of Game Pass subscribers and cited rising cloud infrastructure costs. Pure Xbox and God Is A Geek have the full details.
Is It Good for Indian Gamers?
Possibly. At roughly ₹330 for 10 hours, it suits occasional play on a phone, TV or older console, with no console purchase. Heavy players would likely spend more than a subscription. Whether India gets the offer, and at what price, hasn’t been announced.
