The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium and Vadodara’s BCA Stadium as the host venues for WPL 2026, set to run from January 9 to February 5, 2026. The tournament window has been shifted a month earlier than usual to accommodate India’s co-hosting duties for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in February-March.

WPL 2026: Complete Tournament Details

Detail	Information
Start Date	January 9, 2026
End Date	February 5, 2026
Duration	28 days
Opening Match Venue	DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai

Why the Schedule Shift?

WPL 2025 ran from February 14 to March 15, spanning a traditional 30-day window. However, with India co-hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 alongside Sri Lanka from February through March, BCCI has strategically preponed WPL 2026 to January to avoid scheduling conflicts and venue availability issues.

This early start ensures women’s cricket gets prime attention without competing for viewership with the marquee men’s tournament. It also allows international stars to participate in WPL before their countries’ World Cup commitments begin.

The Two Host Venues

DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai

Location: Nerul, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra
Capacity: 55,000
Significance: Will host the opening match on January 9, 2026

The state-of-the-art DY Patil Stadium hosted matches during the 2022 Women’s World Cup and IPL fixtures. Its excellent infrastructure, modern facilities, and proximity to Mumbai make it ideal for high-profile cricket. The venue offers world-class player amenities, media facilities, and spectator comfort—crucial for WPL’s growing profile.

BCA Stadium, Vadodara

Location: Vadodara, Gujarat
Capacity: 46,000
Significance: Will host the WPL 2026 final on February 5

The Baroda Cricket Association Stadium has become a WPL favorite, hosting matches in both previous editions. Gujarat Giants call Vadodara home, providing built-in local fan support. The venue’s excellent pitch conditions and enthusiastic crowds create an electric atmosphere perfect for the championship finale.

Comparison with WPL 2025 Venues

Season	Venues	Cities
WPL 2025	4 venues	Mumbai, Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow
WPL 2026	2 venues	Navi Mumbai, Vadodara

The reduction from four to two venues suggests BCCI is focusing on logistical efficiency while maintaining geographic diversity. This dual-venue model minimizes team travel, reduces costs, and concentrates fan engagement in two proven cricket markets.

Match Format & Timings

While the official schedule remains pending, BCCI is expected to continue the single-match-per-day format introduced in WPL 2025—no double-headers. This ensures:

✅ Prime-time slots for all matches (evening/night)
✅ Maximum viewership with undivided attention
✅ Better player recovery between matches
✅ Enhanced broadcast quality with focused production

The 22-match league format (each team plays 8 matches) followed by playoffs remains unchanged, with the opening game in Navi Mumbai on January 9 and the final in Vadodara on February 5.

What’s Missing: Official Schedule

BCCI hasn’t released the detailed match schedule yet. Fans can expect announcements soon regarding:

Team-wise fixtures
Travel days between venues
Playoff dates (likely late January)
Reserve day arrangements
Broadcasting partners and timings

Strategic Importance

The January window positions WPL 2026 as the perfect curtain-raiser for India’s cricket-packed 2026, building momentum before the T20 World Cup. Holding the tournament in two compact venues creates festival-like atmospheres similar to IPL playoff venues, intensifying competition and fan experience.

With record-breaking auction prices like Deepti Sharma’s ₹3.2 crore deal and expanding viewership, WPL 2026 promises to be the most competitive edition yet.
