World of Warcraft: Midnight’s pre-expansion update went live on January 22, 2026, bringing major system changes and early access to features as the game transitions to version 12.0. Following Xal’atath’s devastating campaign in The War Within, Champions of Azeroth must now prepare for looming battles against Void forces with exciting new gameplay additions.

Game Version	12.0 client update

Devourer Demon Hunter Unleashed

The standout addition is the Devourer Demon Hunter specialization—a new mid-ranged caster that harnesses Void power to combat threats to Azeroth. This specialization introduces a fresh playstyle distinct from traditional melee Demon Hunter roles, allowing players to wield dark magic against Void champions.

Accompanying this is the new Void Elf Demon Hunter race/class combination, expanding character customization options for players seeking unique fantasy identities.

Player Housing Gets Neighbourhood Activities

Player housing receives significant updates with Endeavours—optional neighbourhood activities that reward décor items and housing experience points. Midnight expansion owners gain access to Night Elf and Blood Elf external housing themes, celebrating the cultures central to the expansion’s storyline.

These additions deepen the player housing system introduced earlier, encouraging community engagement and personalization.

UI Overhaul and System Changes

The update brings powerful UI improvements including customization options, cleaner raid frames, expanded display-scaling controls, and enhanced nameplates and damage meters. A stat and item level squish rebalances character progression, while transmogrification system updates offer more cosmetic flexibility.

Twilight Ascension Event Coming January 28

Starting January 28, 2026, the Twilight Ascension in-game event launches, featuring random Void encounters throughout Azeroth. Players can earn rewards while benefiting from the Winds of Mysterious Fortune XP buff for characters levels 10-79—perfect timing for leveling alts before Midnight’s full release.
