How to Obtain These Winter Companions

Unlike PowNin (the AI ninja penguin that fights alongside you), the Cocoa Cub and Puffy Penguin are purely cosmetic companions that follow you around and look adorable doing it. Here’s how to get them:

Method 1: Lucky Spin/Event Draws

Navigate to the Events section in your PUBG Mobile lobby
Look for the “Winter Companions” or “Frost Festival” lucky spin
Each spin costs approximately 60 UC
Guaranteed companion after 10 spins (maximum 600 UC)

Method 2: Direct Store Purchase

Check the Shop → Companions section
Some regions may offer direct purchase options
Price typically ranges from 300-600 UC depending on your region

Method 3: Event Milestones

Complete daily/weekly Frosty Funland challenges
Accumulate event tokens
Redeem tokens in the event shop for companions

Pro Tip: If you’re planning to buy both companions, wait for bundle deals that occasionally appear offering both at a discount (usually around 800 UC total instead of 1,200 UC separately).

What’s the Difference Between Buddies and PowNin?

This confuses many players, so let’s clarify:

Cosmetic Companions (Cocoa Cub & Puffy Penguin):

Follow you around looking cute
No gameplay advantages
Purely for aesthetics
Permanent once obtained

AI Companion (PowNin the Ninja Penguin):

Actually fights enemies with shurikens
Can revive teammates
Only available in Frosty Funland mode
One per squad—first come, first served!

Want to maximize your PUBG Mobile companion collection? Consider which cosmetics match your current outfits and skins.

Are They Worth Your UC?

Let’s be honest—these companions don’t give you tactical advantages. However, they do:

✓ Show off your dedication to seasonal events
✓ Make your character unique in the lobby and on the battlefield
✓ Provide permanent cosmetic value (unlike consumables)
✓ Potentially become rare collectibles after the event ends

For players who enjoy cosmetic collecting in PUBG Mobile, these limited-time companions are worthwhile investments. However, F2P players might want to save UC for functionally useful items like Royale Pass or weapon skins.

FAQs

Q: Can these companions be traded or gifted to other players?

No, PUBG Mobile doesn’t currently support companion trading or gifting. Once you obtain the Cocoa Cub Buddy or Puffy Penguin Buddy, they’re permanently bound to your account. However, you can purchase UC gift cards for friends who want to buy companions themselves.

Q: Will the Cocoa Cub and Puffy Penguin buddies return after January 31, 2026?

While Tencent hasn’t officially confirmed, seasonal companions typically don’t return immediately after their events end. They may reappear in future winter events (December 2026 or later) or special “vault” sales, but there’s no guarantee. If you want them, it’s safest to grab them during their current availability window through January 31, 2026.
