Directing your debut film is already a lot of pressure. Add being Thalapathy Vijay’s son, and every move gets scrutinized for hints about what’s next. Jason Sanjay just addressed the question everyone’s been asking — will he step in front of the camera too?

What Jason Sanjay Actually Said

Speaking with SS Music, Sanjay made clear his focus right now is entirely on his directorial debut: “Till Sigma release, I want my full focus on that, as I shouldn’t get deviated.” But he didn’t rule acting out — “After Sigma release, if something interesting comes, I’ll definitely act,” adding that he’d start with rom-coms to “be myself” before eventually exploring sci-fi.

What Sigma Is About

Billed as an action-adventure comedy, “Sigma” follows a lone-wolf protagonist who challenges societal expectations while chasing hidden treasure through a series of high-stakes heists.

Why This Answer Matters

Sanjay’s response strikes a deliberate balance — he’s not shutting the door on following his father’s footsteps, but he’s also not rushing it. Choosing rom-com as a starting genre “to be himself” suggests he wants his acting career, whenever it starts, to be judged on its own terms rather than as an extension of Vijay‘s mass-hero image. That’s a smart long-game move for any star kid navigating comparisons before they’ve even debuted.
