Netflix’s psychological thriller “Alice in Borderland” has captivated audiences worldwide with its intense survival games and complex characters. With Season 3 confirmed for release on September 25, 2025, fans are eagerly questioning which beloved characters will return to the deadly Borderland.

Alice in Borderland Season 3: Are Chishiya and Kuina Coming Back?

The return of fan-favorite characters Shuntarō Chishiya (Nijirō Murakami) and Hikari Kuina (Aya Asahina) remains officially unconfirmed by Netflix. However, since both characters survived Season 2 alongside Ann (Ayaka Miyoshi), we expect them to reprise their roles.

Their absence from the initial teaser has sparked concern among fans, but the fact that only Arisu and Usagi appear in the Alice in Borderland season 3 teaser trailer does not mean that other characters will not return.

The cast also includes Koji Ohkura, Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Kotaro Daigo, Hyunri, Sakura Kiryu, Yugo Mikawa, Joey Iwanaga, Akana Ikeda and Kento Kaku, bringing fresh energy to the upcoming season.

Why Chishiya and Kuina Matter

Chishiya is a mysterious, quiet, and sly player who teams up with Kuina to steal Hatter’s deck of cards, making their partnership crucial to the series’ dynamics. During those episodes, Chishiya and Kuina were always together, with the show quickly establishing that they had been friends, if not best friends, for a while.

Their separation in Season 2 left fans wanting more of their compelling friendship, and Alice in Borderland Season 3 can finally fix the show’s Chishiya & Kuina mistake by reuniting them.

What to Expect in Season 3

Director Shinsuke Sato returns to helm the new season, promising the same high-stakes intensity that made the series a global phenomenon. With Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya reprising their roles as Arisu and Usagi in season three, fans can look forward to witnessing the evolution of their characters in the ever-dangerous landscape of Borderland.

The third season ventures into uncharted territory, as the first two seasons of the show finished the original manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Haro Aso, meaning fresh storylines await.

FAQs

Q: Will Chishiya and Kuina definitely return in Alice in Borderland Season 3?

A: While Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed their return, strong indicators suggest both characters will be back. Nijirō Murakami’s strategic mind and calm demeanor have made him one of the most fan-favorite characters. Besides him, Aya Asahina may also assume her role as Hikari Kuina in Season 3. Their survival at the end of Season 2, combined with their popularity among fans and crucial role in the series’ dynamics, makes their return highly likely. The characters’ absence from initial promotional materials doesn’t necessarily indicate they won’t appear, as Netflix often keeps major character returns as surprises.

Q: What makes Alice in Borderland Season 3 different from previous seasons?

A: Season 3 marks a significant departure from the source material since the first two seasons completed the original manga storyline. This means viewers will experience entirely new games, challenges, and character developments not seen in the manga. Now, the “games” that took the world by storm begin once again, but with original content that will surprise even manga readers. The season promises to explore new aspects of the Borderland while maintaining the psychological thriller elements that made the series a global success. Additionally, the introduction of new cast members suggests fresh dynamics and possibly new types of survival games that will test both returning and new characters in unprecedented ways.
