Why Olivia Dunne Missed Paul Skenes’ Historic WBC Debut — And How She Made It Up to Him

When your boyfriend is striking out seven batters on an international stage, missing it feels like a crime. But Olivia Dunne had a very good reason — and she made sure the internet knew about it in the most charming way possible.

What Happened at the WBC?

Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes delivered a commanding performance for Team USA against Mexico in the World Baseball Classic — pitching four innings, allowing just one hit, striking out seven batters, and walking only one.

Impressive by any measure. And yet his most famous fan wasn’t in the stands.

Why Olivia Dunne Wasn’t There

Taking to social media, Dunne posted a short video with the caption “Ya girls gotta work but…GO USA RAHHH,” alongside an American bald eagle emoji.

In the clip, she holds up a Skenes No. 30 jersey and jumps excitedly, with on-screen text reading “getting excited to watch your bf rep the USA” — before cutting to Dunne in different attire with the words “misses game,” playfully explaining her absence.

It was the kind of post only Livvy Dunne could pull off — funny, relatable, and completely on-brand. While she didn’t specify what work kept her away, it’s no secret that the former LSU gymnastics star and social media megastar juggles a packed professional schedule alongside her role as the most well-known WAG in baseball.

Skenes Was Buzzing After the Game

The performance clearly meant a lot to him. Speaking to Fox’s Ken Rosenthal, Skenes described the WBC experience as “awesome,” saying “Getting that five-run inning made it really easy to go back out there, but that was unbelievable.”

Paul Skenes, who won the Cy Young Award last season, is quickly cementing himself as one of baseball’s most exciting young arms — and his WBC debut only added to that narrative.

Livvy’s Track Record as Skenes’ Biggest Fan

Missing one game doesn’t define her support. Just days earlier, Dunne had appeared in the stands at one of Team USA’s exhibition games in Arizona, showing consistent enthusiasm for Skenes on the international stage.
