WhatsApp just dropped a privacy feature that’s about to transform how you chat. Soon, you won’t need to share your actual phone number with strangers anymore. Instead, usernames are taking center stage. Here’s everything you need to know about this major overhaul and why it matters for your digital privacy.

What’s Actually Changing?

WhatsApp is rolling out a revolutionary feature that lets you create a unique username instead of relying solely on your phone number for identification. This means you can share your WhatsApp contact with anyone without exposing your personal phone number—a game-changer for privacy-conscious users everywhere.

Think of it like this: instead of giving out your phone number to connect on WhatsApp, you’ll simply share your username. It’s cleaner, safer, and gives you complete control over who knows your actual contact details. For the latest tech updates on privacy features, check out the full coverage at News Karnataka.

Why This Privacy Update Matters Now

1. Protection from Unwanted Contact Your phone number is your gateway to spam, unsolicited messages, and unwanted calls. With usernames, you control who can find and contact you. No more random marketing messages from people who somehow got your digits.

2. Digital Identity Control For the first time, WhatsApp users get to decide their online persona. You’re not just a phone number anymore—you’re a username. This separation between your private contact info and your public identity is powerful stuff.

3. Bridging the Business-Personal Gap Small business owners and professionals can now share business usernames without exposing personal phone numbers. It’s a win for everyone looking to maintain professional boundaries.
