Voltas’ Strategy to Absorb the Shock
Rather than passing the entire burden to consumers, Voltas MD Mukundan Menon said the company is targeting to raise localisation levels from 70% to 90% over the next two years by expanding local sourcing for compressors, motors, PCBs, and copper and aluminium components — a move that should reduce import dependency significantly.
The company already has a production capacity of 30 lakh split AC units across two plants in Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu, and is geared up to meet the anticipated demand surge. Despite the cost pressures, the industry expects AC sales to grow 15–20% over last year, which was exceptionally weak for the entire segment.
