Virgin River Season 7 Gets March 2026 Netflix Release Window Confirmed by Star

Netflix’s beloved romantic drama “Virgin River” is returning in March 2026, according to star Benjamin Hollingsworth who plays Dan Brady. After months of speculation about the show’s delayed seventh season, fans finally have a clearer timeline for Mel and Jack’s next chapter.

The Release Date Revelation

The March 2026 release news came courtesy of FOX5 in New York during an interview with Hollingsworth, who was promoting his new movie “The Christmas Ring.” The host announced the show’s release month as March, and Hollingsworth later confirmed it when specifically asked.

However, neither Netflix nor the official Virgin River social media accounts have confirmed the return month or date. The streaming giant only confirmed during its Q3 earnings call that Virgin River would return in 2026.

Why the Delay to 2026?

Despite filming wrapping in June 2024, the series is absent from Netflix’s late-2025 lineup due to strategic scheduling rather than production setbacks. With heavyweights like Stranger Things Season 5 and Bridgerton Season 4 dominating Netflix’s year-end and early 2026 slate, Virgin River needs breathing room.

A March or April 2026 release gives Virgin River the space it needs to rebuild momentum after Season 6 recorded the lowest viewership since its peak in Season 4, despite extensive promotional campaigns.

What to Expect in Season 7

Season 7 picks up with major cliffhangers: Brady left broke after having all his money stolen, and Brie received a surprise proposal from Mike. According to Hollingsworth, “He’s going to hunt down that money and find his ex-girlfriend, and he’s also going to navigate whether he can get back with Brie.”

For Mel and Jack, the newlyweds embark on a new chapter navigating marriage, family planning, and rural farm life. Production even traveled to Mexico for the first time to film their honeymoon scenes, adding fresh locations to the series.

The season will also explore Doc’s suspended medical license, Lizzie and Denny preparing for their first child, and Charmaine’s dangerous troubles with Calvin.

New Cast Additions

Season 7 introduces two compelling new characters. Sara Canning joins as Victoria, a former cop turned medical board investigator who comes to examine Doc’s clinic while reconnecting with someone from her past. Cody Kearsley plays Clay, a charming rodeo worker arriving in town.

Season 8 Already Confirmed

Netflix has already renewed Virgin River for Season 8, with the writer’s room opening in October 2025. A charity listing indicates Season 8 production will begin in April 2026 and run through July, following the show’s pattern of returning and then moving back into production shortly after premiere.

This means fans could potentially get both seasons in 2026 and 2027, keeping the beloved series alive through at least its eighth installment.

The Show’s Legacy

Since its 2019 debut, Virgin River has become one of Netflix’s longest-running dramas. Season 6 gained over 67 million viewing hours in its first week and climbed to over 213 million hours after four weeks, proving the show’s enduring popularity despite viewership declines.

The series continues adapting Robyn Carr’s book series, with discussions about a potential prequel spin-off exploring Mel’s parents’ early life in Virgin River.

What Comes Next

While fans await official confirmation from Netflix, March 2026 aligns perfectly with the production timeline and gives the show strategic positioning away from major franchise releases. One Piece Season 2 is currently the only other March premiere scheduled, releasing on March 10th.

Until then, fans can catch Alexandra Breckenridge in her Netflix Christmas movie “My Secret Santa,” premiering December 3, 2025.
