There are interviews that inform — and then there are interviews that hit you right in the chest. Director Vignesh Shivan’s recent candid conversation ahead of his film Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) releasing April 10, 2026, was firmly the latter. He spoke about the moment he fell for Nayanthara, and broke his silence on the painful rift with Dhanush that has haunted him ever since.

Love at First Shot
When Vignesh first met Nayanthara, he was relieved to have secured her dates but admitted he wasn’t in a confident space as a director. After three days of shooting, Nayanthara told him firmly, “You are the director — what you ask me to do, I have to do it 10 or 100 times. That is my job.” That clarity from her — no drama, just professionalism — clearly disarmed him. Love quietly followed.
The Dhanush Wound That Won’t Heal
This is where the interview gets deeply emotional. Vignesh shared a striking personal detail — Dhanush’s birthday falls on July 28, the very same day his father passed away, which is why he feels a fatherly presence in the actor.
He credited Dhanush entirely for the life he now lives, saying he spent over two years by his side during the VIP shoot and would eat only after Dhanush ate — describing a bond of rare devotion.
The public fallout began in 2024 when a three-second clip from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan — a film produced by Dhanush and directed by Vignesh — appeared in Nayanthara’s Netflix documentary. Dhanush took legal action, and the relationship collapsed. ETV Bharat
Vignesh’s words were full of regret: “If you lose someone who is on good terms with you, it is a shame. There has been a mistake at some place.” Gulte
