We all are familiar with online shopping and nowadays, it becomes a trend for almost every kind of product, either it’s groceries or electronics products, or something else. Thanks to the global pandemic. The platforms are also trying to upgrade their services day by day, so one of their main concern is the delivery system. The concept of delivering products with drones is already in the market, only that remains to be implemented.

A Verizon company, Skyward along with UPS Flight Forward (Federal Aviation Administration certified company, 2019) announced their collaboration, at CES 2021, to develop drones to deliver retail products to the doorsteps. And in this project, the drones will be connected to Verizon 4G LTE, as well as 5G. Their aim is to assign the product delivery job to drones in the villages of Florida.

The CEO of UPS, Carol B. Tomé said, “We will need the ability to manage and support multiple drones, flying simultaneously, dispatched from a centralized location, operating in a secure and safe environment. To do this at scale, alongside Verizon and Skyward, we’ll need the power of 5G,

“We’re just beginning to see how the power of 5G Ultra Wideband will transform the way businesses operate,” stated the Chief Strategy Officer of Verizon, Rima Qureshi. She added, “By partnering with UPS and other innovative companies, we can learn from each other’s expertise and collaborate to create solutions that help move the world forward.”

In case you don’t know, these three companies started testing 4G LTE in delivery drones last year.

“The low latency of 5G and edge compute is ideal for monitoring air traffic in and out of a busy logistics hub, especially those using mixed fleets of autonomous vehicles like drones, trucks, and planes,” – Mariah Scott, the Skyward President. “This year, we’ll be taking the collaboration with UPS further by testing 5G Ultra Wideband integrations to connect the sky.”

As per the information, UPS Flight Forward controlled over 3,8000 successful drone delivery science its establishment and want to scale up its services with more efficiency. The need for it increases for the pandemic as contactless delivery is the main concern.

Bala Ganesh, Vice President, Advanced Technology Group at UPS said, “Using Verizon’s 5G and Skyward, we’ll be able to transform the delivery experience – more personal, more on-demand and with the same safety, efficiency, and reliability our customers trust today,”
