What Is Veil of Shadows About?
Think of it as a gloriously layered fantasy mystery where nothing is as it seems and everyone has a secret identity. Lu Wu Yi, the youngest nine-tailed fox of the organization Wu Xiang Yue, is on a mission to find the great demon Xiao Wei. Disguised as a priest, she enters Wei Manor in Luo’an and discovers that others are also hunting Xiao Wei — including a vengeful demon, her cunning nine-tailed fox sister, and an innocent-looking priest with a mysterious past.
All of them seek the Dragon Deity’s power, but their motives vary: some want to protect, others to kill. As they navigate battles, friendships, and romance, they face obstacles and make sacrifices to protect peace and change their fates.
If you enjoy the layered storytelling style of titles like The Untamed or Hidden Love, this one slots right into that tradition. Wuxia, as a genre, has a rich history of blending martial arts mastery with mythological fantasy — and Veil of Shadows looks to push that tradition to visually spectacular new heights.
Who Stars in Veil of Shadows?
The four main leads include Ju Jingyi as Lu Wu Yi / Di Zhu / Jiu Ying, Joseph Zeng as Wu Shi Guang / Cang Hao, Chen Duling as Wu Wang Yan / Qing Yi, and Tian Jiarui as Ji Ling / Long Shen — backed by a massive supporting roster of over 30 actors and a lineup of notable special guest stars. whats-on-netflix
The dual-identity structure for each lead character alone promises layers of drama and mystery that’ll keep you guessing episode after episode.
Netflix has been quietly expanding its licensed Chinese drama library after massive global success with titles like Hidden Love, Falling Into Your Smile, and The Untamed — and Veil of Shadows is the latest major addition to that growing slate. whats-on-netflix
