Vaibhav Suryavanshi: A Boy on a Mission
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 15-year-old batting prodigy, broke a 14-year-old IPL record for the most sixes in a season by former RCB opener and T20 great Chris Gayle. And he did it in the most dramatic fashion possible — in a knockout game, under pressure, against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
After hitting Sakib Hussain for a six to level Gayle’s record at 59, Suryavanshi broke it just three balls later. He then hit one more on the final ball of the over — simultaneously bringing up his fifty in only 16 balls.

Suryavanshi’s 65 sixes are now the most by any batter in a T20 tournament — ever. Gayle had taken 456 balls to set his record. Suryavanshi needed just 266.
He is also the first batter in history to score 600-plus runs in a T20 tournament while striking at 200 or more — a feat that seemed humanly impossible until now.
His 16-ball fifty tied with Suresh Raina’s 16-ball half-century against Kings XI Punjab in the 2014 Qualifier 2 — the joint-fastest fifty in IPL playoff history.

Opening alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryavanshi first smashed SRH captain Pat Cummins for an overhead six, then hit three sixes and a four off Cummins’ second over, accumulating 25 runs in a single over. He eventually departed for a breathtaking 97 off 29 balls, hitting 12 maximums and five fours.
