Eleven years after his last on-screen appearance, Ultron is returning — and Marvel just gave fans their clearest look yet at his classic robot form.
Three new pieces of official artwork, unveiled through BoxLunch merchandise, tease Ultron’s design ahead of VisionQuest‘s October 14 premiere on Disney+. The series closes out the Wanda Maximoff–Vision trilogy that began with WandaVision, and this time, Ultron isn’t just a memory — he’s living inside Vision’s mind.
The 3 New Ultron Designs, Explained
Each piece of art highlights a different side of Ultron’s mechanical form, all rooted in his original Avengers: Age of Ultron look rather than a full redesign.
| Design | Style | What It Shows |
|---|---|---|
| Helmeted head | Circuit-board red & black lines | Classic 2015 Age of Ultron head design |
| Full-body silhouette | Pixel-dot data fragments inside his name | Dark, data-corrupted aesthetic |
| Technical schematic | Pale blue line art | Detailed endoskeleton, joints, and seams |
Why Ultron’s Robot Form Takes a Back Seat
Despite the new art, showrunner Terry Matalas confirmed Ultron’s human form — played by James Spader — will dominate screen time, calling it a creative choice rather than a budget one. He promised fans “plenty of robot action” regardless.

The bigger story is where Ultron actually lives: inside Vision’s mind, in a surreal mental mansion alongside other Stark-created AIs like JARVIS, FRIDAY, and DUM-E. Since Vision was unintentionally created by Ultron, the series leans into a father-son dynamic — with Ultron cast as the devil on Vision’s shoulder as he tries to make sense of a world he barely understands.
