Udan Yatri Cafe: Affordable Dining at Kolkata Airport

The Udan Yatri Cafe has been inaugurated at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, marking a significant step towards making air travel more inclusive and affordable. This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), aims to address the long-standing issue of overpriced food and beverages at airports. With items priced as low as Rs 10, the Udan Yatri Cafe is set to redefine the dining experience for travelers.

Udan Yatri Cafe: A Revolutionary Step in Airport Dining

The Udan Yatri Cafe is a game-changer in the aviation sector. Launched on a Tuesday at Kolkata Airport, this cafe offers budget-friendly food options that cater to the needs of all travelers. The menu includes essentials like water bottles and tea for just Rs 10 each, while coffee, samosas, and the sweet of the day are priced at Rs 20. This initiative is a direct response to concerns raised in Parliament about the high cost of food and beverages at airports, making air travel more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

During the launch, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated, ‘It is my heartfelt mission to make air travel a symbol of affordability, dignity, and comfort—an experience that every Indian can embrace with pride. By breaking barriers and bridging aspirations, we aim to ensure every citizen feels celebrated in India’s aviation journey.’

Expanding the Vision Nationwide

The success of the Udan Yatri Cafe at Kolkata Airport has sparked discussions about expanding this initiative to airports across the country. The government is actively considering the establishment of similar cafes nationwide, ensuring that affordable dining options are available to all air travelers. This move aligns with the broader vision of making air travel a more inclusive and accessible mode of transportation for every Indian.
