Tu Yaa Main Box Office Collection Week 1: Shanaya Kapoor’s Debut Film Struggles Hard, Eyes a Meagre Rs 5 Crore Total

Bollywood was hoping for a fresh survival thriller to make its mark — but Tu Yaa Main, starring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor, has turned out to be one of the bigger disappointments of early 2026 at the box office. After a full week in cinemas, the numbers tell a sobering story.

Tu Yaa Main — Week 1 Box Office Collections

Why Did Tu Yaa Main Struggle So Badly?

Let’s be real — the film had a tough hand to play from the start. Backed by Colour Yellow Productions and Bhanushali Studios, Tu Yaa Main is a creature/horror survival thriller directed by Bejoy Nambiar, known for films like Wazir and Taish. But it lacked what Bollywood audiences increasingly demand for theatrical outings: a recognizable star face that pulls in the crowds.

The mixed word-of-mouth didn’t help either. Today’s multiplex audience is acutely aware of what feels like a theatrical experience versus an OTT watch — and Tu Yaa Main, unfortunately, fell squarely into the latter category in the minds of most viewers. The result? A dramatic drop after a modest Sunday, with weekday collections falling to just Rs. 35 lakh.

This reflects a wider industry challenge — something we’ve discussed extensively in our Bollywood box office trends analysis — where small-to-mid budget Hindi films are finding it increasingly hard to survive theatrically without a big name or a truly exceptional word-of-mouth push.

Shanaya Kapoor’s Debut — A Rocky Start

This was Shanaya Kapoor’s much-anticipated Bollywood debut, and sadly, the film didn’t give her the launchpad she needed. While she belongs to Bollywood royalty as the daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and niece of Anil Kapoor, star lineage alone can’t drive footfalls in today’s market.

What Happens Next?

With Do Deewane Sheher Mein and Assi releasing this week, Tu Yaa Main is likely to get pushed out of cinemas before finishing its second week. A final total of around Rs. 5 crore nett looks like the realistic ceiling. The film’s best hope now lies in its OTT release — though analysts argue that widening the OTT window to at least 6 months would give small films like this a better chance at theatrical recovery.
