In the penultimate episode, Nikki (Esther Smith) and Jason (Rafe Spall) attempt to escape their mounting domestic pressures with a getaway to Italy. Naturally, things don’t go according to plan — both at home and abroad — keeping the show’s signature blend of heartfelt chaos fully intact right up to the finale.

Season 5 has centered on Nikki and Jason navigating the fallout after Princess and Tyler’s biological mother, Kat, unexpectedly reenters their lives, disrupting the family’s hard-won stability. The ensemble cast includes Celia Imrie, Colin Morgan, Darren Boyd, Siân Brooke, and Phil Davis.

One Episode Left After This

With the finale locked in for August 26, fans have just one more week to see how this emotionally charged season wraps up. Created by Andy Wolton, Trying has built its reputation on quiet, character-driven moments rather than big twists — and this final stretch looks set to deliver plenty of both.
