India clearly doesn’t have infinity and beyond when it comes to Toy Story. Despite being a globally beloved Pixar franchise, Toy Story 5 has posted a worryingly low opening in India — and the numbers tell a disappointing story.

Let’s be honest — this isn’t entirely surprising. Toy Story 4 (2019) had also opened to around Rs. 5 crore and closed at just Rs. 8 crore in India. The franchise simply doesn’t carry the same emotional pull here that it does in Western markets.

What stings more is the comparison. During similar periods, Incredibles 2 and Frozen 2 both crossed Rs. 50 crore in India. More recently, Inside Out 2, Moana 2, and Zootopia 2 all surpassed the Rs. 30 crore mark — comfortably outpacing Toy Story 5 before it’s even finished its run.

At its current pace, the film may scrape together around Rs. 10 crore lifetime — a marginal improvement over Toy Story 4, but still a significant underperformance.

What This Means for Hollywood Animation in India

India’s animation market is selective. Character-driven original IPs with strong local marketing (Frozen, Zootopia, Moana) tend to connect better with Indian audiences. Legacy franchises like Toy Story — which built their fanbase in the 90s when India’s multiplex culture was still nascent — haven’t successfully transferred that nostalgia into ticket sales.
