The world of TOP BOY is officially coming back to life. Netflix announced two new series: Jonny Boy, one that brings back Barry Keoghan as the ruthless Jonny; and Jaq (a working title), which is built around Jacqueline, who will be played by Jasmine Jobson. Both were unveiled as part of a wider slate of new UK commissions during Netflix’s Spotlight session at the Edinburgh TV Festival on August 26, 2026.
Nearly three years after Top Boy’s soul-crushing finale ended Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully’s (Kane “Kano” Robinson) stories, we’re heading back to East London for two new series set in the world that creator Ronan Bennett built, beginning with Top Boy: Summerhouse, back in 2011.

JONNY BOY: Barry Keoghan’s Origin Story
The Saltburn star has agreed to reprise his role as Jonny McGee for a five-part Netflix prequel series, which will be written by Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett. In the original show, Jonny is a powerful member of the Irish mob in London, serving as a soldier and drug distributor for his uncle, Tadgh McGee (Brian Gleeson).

Keoghan first appeared in Top Boy’s final season as Jonny, a violent Irish gangster whose brief but menacing time on the show was unforgettably captivating. Notably, Keoghan, a long-time fan, originally approached Bennett about securing a part in the original series — and now he’s leading his own show. In fact, Jonny Boy is the first series he’s leading that he also pitched himself.
The creative lineup is impressive: the series has been written by Belfast-born Ronan Bennett with Ali Abbasi directing. Abbasi is known for The Apprentice and The Last of Us.
“We pitched our vision and idea to Netflix and the executive producers, and they were so supportive in wanting to bring our passion project forward, exploring Jonny McGee’s origin story through a new bold lens,” said Keoghan and his Wolfcub Productions partner Des Byrne.
JAQ: Jasmine Jobson Returns as the Fan Favourite
Jasmine Jobson (MobLand, In the Shadows) will reprise her BAFTA-winning role as Jaq in the six-episode series, simply titled Jaq. Jaq will focus on Jaq Lawrence, a high-ranking member of the Summerhouse gang played by Jasmine Jobson. Jobson will return in the six-episode series that will explore Jaq’s story beyond Summerhouse.

Jaq is created and written by Ryan Calais Cameron, though exact plot details are being kept under wraps. Jobson’s excitement was clear — “Can finally say it!!” Jobson shared on her Instagram Story after the announcement.
Her return is well-earned: Jobson’s performance as Jaq earned her a BAFTA TV Best Supporting Actress award.
The Executive Producer Teams

Ryan Calais Cameron is writing and executive producing alongside Jobson, with Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett executive producing via Easter Partisan Films, Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind for Cowboy Films, Aubrey Graham and Adel “Future” Nur for DreamCrew Entertainment, and Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson for SpringHill Studios. Meanwhile, on the prequel, Keoghan and Abbasi will executive produce Jonny Boy, alongside Des Byrne for Wolfcub Productions.
Notably, Drake, already linked to the Netflix revival of Top Boy, will also serve as an executive producer for both series.
The Legacy of TOP BOY
Top Boy originally debuted on Channel 4 in 2011 before being cancelled, then was revived by Netflix following interest from Drake. Relaunched by the platform in 2019, the drama follows for three more seasons the journeys of Dushane and Sully through East London’s neighbourhoods, before ending in September 2023.

While fans wait, the five seasons that make up the original narrative — two seasons of Top Boy: Summerhouse and three seasons of Top Boy — are available on Netflix.
When Will the Spinoffs Release?
Both series will begin filming in 2027, and Netflix has not yet announced precise dates or filming locations. The supporting cast, release calendars, and first-look images are also yet to be revealed. Realistically, fans should expect a premiere no earlier than late 2027 or 2028.
