Paris Saint-Germain recently had one of the best transfer windows in the history of football, signing Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Gini Wijnaldum as free agents and Achraf Hakimi for a paid transfer. So, here are five other clubs that had similar impressive transfer windows.

Juventus | 2001

Notable signings: Gianluigi Buffon (£47.60m), Pavel Nedved (£40.50m), Lillian Thuram (£32.54m), Marcelo Salas (£22.50m), Cristian Zenoni (£13.95m), Nicola Amoruso (£4.95m)

Following Roma’s successful title campaign in the previous year, Juventus went on a spending spree to usurp the Scudetto from the capital club. Buffon and Nedved have since established themselves as undisputed club legends for the Bianconeri.

AC Milan | 2002

Notable signings: Alessandro Nesta (£27.90m), Clarence Seedorf (£20.55m), Martin Laursen (£9.90m), Rivaldo (Free), Jon Dahl Tomasson (Free)

The arrival of talents like Nesta and Seedorf allowed the Rossoneri to land the Serie A title a couple seasons after their spending spree. Moreover, these signings helped them win the 2003 Champions League.

Inter Milan | 2009

Notable signings: Diego Milito (£25.20m), Samuel Eto’o (£18.00m), Wesley Sneijder (£13.50m), Thiago Motta (£9.18m), Lucio (£6.30m), Goran Pandev (Free)

Jose Mourinho’s 2009 recruits were notable for being some of the best business deals in Europe. Especially when you consider that these players won the treble this season, and not one of them cost the club over £20 million.

Real Madrid | 2009

Notable signings: Cristiano Ronaldo (€94m), Kaka (€67m), Karim Benzema (€35m), Xabi Alonso (€34.5m), Raul Albiol (€15m)

In terms of paid transfers, Real Madrid’s 2009 window is still hard to beat. Los Blancos signed some of the world’s best talents in Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and Xabi Alonso in the same window to bolster their squad and help challenge for titles on all fronts.

Barcelona | 2014

Notable signings: Luis Suarez (£73.55m), Jeremy Mathieu (£18.00m), Thomas Vermaelen (£17.10m), Ivan Rakitic (£16.20m), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (£10.80m)

Suarez, Rakitic and ter Stegen were part of the Champions League winning starting XI and Suarez scored the second goal in the final against Juventus as the Blaugrana won their most recent European Cup with the help of a great summer spending the year before.
