Top 5 sides who have never won the Champions League

Not everybody has the privilege of winning the Champions League, and to do so multiple times as Chelsea have now, takes some serious amount of luck. But while the Blues were fortunate enough, the same cannot be said for plenty of other sides throughout the years. And here are the top five best teams to never win the trophy:

Juventus (1997-1999)

It has been a very long time since Juventus last got their hands on European silverware. And the side that boasted Christian Vieri, Alen Boksic, Zinedine Zidane, Didier Deschamps, Alessandro del Piero and Pablo Montero fell short of the trophy on numerous occasions despite progressing deep into the tournament on multiple occasions.

Valencia (2000-2001)

The glory days of Rafa Benitez saw Valencia emerge as one of the powerhouses in Spain. While their situation right now is nothing like what it once was, the team featured Santiago Canizares, Mauricio Pellegrino, Gaizka Mendieta, John Carew, Pablo Aimar and Didier Deschamps.

Chelsea (2005-2007)

While John Terry is an undisputed club legend, his slip in the penalty shootout against Manchester United led to them bottling their Champions League final. And even though they won it in 2012, the team under Jose Mourinho was very unfortunate to not win a Champions League to add to the historic 2005 PL victory.

Atletico Madrid (2014-2016)

Diego Simeone is hailed as one of the best defensive minded coaches in the world, and his Atletico team from 2014 to 2016 was the peak of his tenure at the Spanish capital. They reached the final of the competition twice only to have their city rivals Real Madrid win the trophy against them.

Manchester City (2018-2021)

Under Pep Guardiola, City have become the biggest club in England and bottled their first ever Champions League final against Chelsea. On paper, the team is flawless and it is very unfortunate that they haven’t won the trophy over the last few years either.
