Top 10 Villain Roles by Akshay Kumar: Before Haiwaan’s Cold-Hearted Antagonist. Ask most fans to describe Akshay Kumar, and words like “Khiladi,” patriot, or comedy king come up first. But long before Haiwaan turned him into a ruthless killer opposite Saif Ali Khan, Akshay had quietly built a parallel legacy: playing some of Bollywood’s most memorable villains. Here’s a ranked look at his darkest turns.

Top 10 Villain Roles by Akshay Kumar

The Role That Started It All

At number two sits the performance that arguably launched this entire conversation. In Ajnabee, Akshay played a man who murders his own wife and frames Bobby Deol’s character to escape with his lover—a genuinely shocking turn that earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.

Haiwaan Breaks New Ground

Topping the list is Haiwaan itself. In his three-decade career spanning nearly 150 films, Akshay has rarely played a character this dark. Director Priyadarshan initially approached Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna before Akshay came on board almost instantly, telling the filmmaker he loved the character the moment he heard the pitch.

A Full-Circle Moment with Saif

Top 10 Villain Roles by Akshay Kumar: Before Haiwaan’s Cold-Hearted Antagonist; What makes Haiwaan’s villain role especially fascinating is its history with Saif Ali Khan. In 1994’s Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Akshay played the hero while Saif was the antagonist. Over three decades later, Haiwaan flips that dynamic entirely, with Akshay as the threat and Saif playing a blind man forced to outwit him.

Why These Roles Matter

Unlike typical Bollywood villains defined by mustache-twirling menace, Akshay’s negative characters—from Khiladi 420’s conning Dev to 2.0’s vengeful Pakshi Rajan—tend to carry genuine psychological complexity. That range is precisely why Priyadarshan felt confident casting against Akshay’s usual comic, patriotic image for Haiwaan.

Final Thoughts

While Akshay Kumar built his stardom on heroism and humor, this list proves his villainous streak has always simmered beneath the surface, waiting for the right script. Haiwaan simply pushes that legacy further into darker, more unforgiving territory than ever before.
