The BBC Asian Network is conducting a poll to determine who is the greatest cricket player of all time in commemoration of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, which is being hosted in England and Wales. The national summer sport of England is cricket, which is currently played all over the world, but especially in the British Isles, Australia, India, and Pakistan.

Here is a complete list of the top 10 of the world Best Cricketer:



1. Australian-born Sir Donald Bradman



One of Australia’s most legendary athletes, “The Don” is regarded as the greatest batter of all time due to his unparalleled batting average. His active year is 1927–1949 along with
6,996 trials were conducted.

2. Indian player Sachin Tendulkar



Sachin Tendulkar, the cricket god of India, is a modern-day cricket icon. He was a decent bowler as well as an excellent hitter. Having 15,921 test runs were performed between 1988 and 2013. Along with 46 wickets at 53.78 in the test and 54.17.

3. West Indian born Sir Garfield Sobers

4. Pakistan’s Imran Khan

Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi was born 5 October 1952) is a Pakistani politician and former cricketer who served as the 22nd prime minister of Pakistan from August 2018 until April 2022. He is the founder and former chairman of the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from 1996 to 2023. He was the captain of the Pakistan national cricket team throughout the 1980s and early 90s.


5. England’s Sir Ian Botham

Ian Terence Botham, Baron Botham, OBE was born 24 November 1955,  is an English cricket commentator, member of the House of Lords, a former cricketer who has been chairman of Durham County Cricket Club since 2017 and charity fundraiser. Hailed as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game, Botham represented England in both Test and One-Day International cricket.

6. Shane Warne

Shane Keith Warne was born on 13 September 1969, nicknamed Warnie, was an Australian international cricketer whose career ran from 1992 to 2007. Warne played as a right-arm leg spin bowler and a right-handed batsman for Victoria, Hampshire and Australia.

Considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, he made 145 Test appearances, taking 708 wickets, and set the record for the most wickets taken by any bowler in Test cricket, a record he held until 2007. Warne was a member of the Australian team that won the 1999 Cricket World Cup.


7. West Indian Sir Viv Richards

Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards was born on 7 March 1952, is an Antiguan retired cricketer who represented the West Indies cricket team between 1974 and 1991. Batting generally at number three in a dominant West Indies side, Richards is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. Richards helped his team win the 1979 Cricket World Cup.

8. Brian Lara from the Caribbean

Brian Charles Lara was born 2 May 1969, is a Trinidadian former international cricketer widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He topped the Test batting rankings on several occasions and holds several cricketing records, including the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket, with 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994, which is the only quintuple-hundred in first-class cricket history. 

As captain, Lara led the West Indies team to win the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy, the first time the team won any major ICC trophy since winning the 1979 Cricket World Cup.


9. South African Jaques Kallis

Jacques Henry Kallis was born 16 October 1975, is a South African cricket coach and former cricketer. Widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time and as one of the greatest all-rounders ever to play the game, he is a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium swing bowler. 

As of 2022, Kallis is the only cricketer in the history of the game to score more than 10,000 runs and take over 250 wickets in both ODI and Test match cricket. He has also taken 131 ODI catches. He scored 13,289 runs in his Test match career, took 292 wickets, and 200 catches. Kallis scored 45 Test match centuries and is the third highest test match run scorer in history. Kallis won 23 Man-of-the-Match awards, the most by any player in Test history.

10. India’s MS Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born 7 July 1981,  is an Indian professional cricketer. He is a right handed batter and a wicket-keeper. Widely regarded as one of the most prolific wicket-keeper-batsmen and captains, he represented the Indian cricket team and was the captain of the side in limited-overs formats from 2007 to 2017 and in test cricket from 2008 to 2014.

Dhoni has captained the most international matches and is the most successful Indian captain. He has led India to victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, the only captain to win three different limited overs tournaments. He also led the teams that won the Asia Cup in 2010, 2016 and was a member of the title winning squad in 2018.
