Most Expensive Bowling Spells in IPL : The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been a batter’s paradise — where sixes rain, boundaries flow, and bowlers often find themselves under siege. In a tournament known for its fireworks, even world-class bowlers have been taken to the cleaners. The latest to face the wrath of power-hitting? Mohammed Shami.

Top 10 Most Expensive Bowling Spells in IPL History: Mohammed Shami Joins the List in 2025

🔥 Mohammed Shami’s 75-Run Spell in 2025: An Unwanted Record

During a high-octane clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in April 2025, Shami was smashed all over the park, conceding 75 runs in his 4 overs. This now stands as the second-most runs ever conceded by a bowler in a single IPL match — and the most by an Indian.

While it’s a record no bowler wants to hold, Shami now joins a list filled with surprising names, including international stars like Jofra Archer and Reece Topley.

What Makes These Spells So Costly?

There are a few common threads:

Flat pitches with short boundaries.
Power-packed batting lineups capable of scoring quickly.
Bowlers having an off-day or getting unlucky with edges and missed chances.

Mohammed Shami’s Spell: A Rare Blip?

Despite the nightmare outing, Shami remains one of India’s most reliable fast bowlers. Every great bowler has that one match they’d like to forget — this might just be his. The 2025 IPL season is still young, and Shami could bounce back with match-winning spells in the games to come.

Only three bowlers on this list managed to pick up a wicket during their expensive spells: Reece Topley, Luke Wood, and Arshdeep Singh.

While this list might make for great trivia, it also reminds us how unpredictable and thrilling the IPL can be. One day you’re the hero; the next, you’re chasing leather across the boundary ropes. For fans, it’s all part of the entertainment!
